WorkplaceSIM designs and develops unique mobile apps and computer ‘Game based learning’ resources for your specific workplace environment primarily for Health, Safety, and Induction training. This form of technology uses behavioural psychology to create effective and engaging training leading to positive behaviour change and positive workplace culture change.
Story telling is a powerful teaching methodology and is integral part of WorkplaceSIM. Users follow the experiences of ‘a day in the life of’ a worker where they can make important decisions in a safe environment. All modules can support existing teaching resources, processes, SoP’s, Best Practice Guidelines, Industry Codes of Practice, and Compliance.
Research has shown that interactive 3D Simulations deliver greater engagement, skill retention, and worker confidence than traditional forms of teaching. The psychology of simulation and game-based learning means it supports those with poor literacy and/or with English as a second language. The format makes this teaching method easily accessible, encourages sharing, and sparks workplace conversations.
This is an innovative response to the issues raised in the Government’s Independent Taskforce on Workplace Health and Safety and the new Health and Safety Act 2015. The Taskforce identified particular risk factors including low worker engagement, insufficient knowledge of risks and specific hazards, insufficient knowledge of regulatory requirements, a risk tolerant culture, and low literacy and poor communication skills. These are of particular concern in our five high-risk industry sectors: Construction, Agriculture, Forestry, Marine, and Manufacturing.
WorkplaceSIM offers interactive 3D lessons in a variety of industries and topics to help people better understand the specific Health, Safety or Environment issues they face in their workplace. By tailoring lessons for individuals, groups of workers, or industry sectors, you’ll know that the right people are receiving the right information and training.
Each industry module features:
The users earns points, or credits, as they progress through the game, which are detailed on a leaderboard. This ‘gamification psychology’ incentivises users to keep progressing through the content, to compare their competency with co-workers, and engage actively.
The reporting feature collates important information to help educators and trainers keep a record of each of their users’ lesson results, time, and number of attempts.
Lesson content is guided by Standard Operating Procedures, Best Practice Guidelines, and NZQA Unit Standards where appropriate. Each lesson should take about 20 minutes to complete depending on the players ability and interest in drilling down for more information.

‘Safer Workplaces’ Module
Our generic module comprises five lessons, developed in conjunction with the EMA (Employers and Manufactures Association, Northern), and based on their popular Health and Safety Rep training programmes.
Set in an office/light manufacturing environment, this module provides an introduction to Health and Safety processes and procedures that, in principal, could be applied to most industries.
The five topics in this module are:
‘Safetree SIM’ Module
Produced for FISC (Forest Industry Safety Council), this module is designed to help tree fellers prepare for their ‘Tree Fellers Certification Assessment’ which evaluates whether they are able to do their job safely and competently. The game tests whether workers know how to carry out their jobs in line with the industry’s ‘Approved Codes of Practice’ and ‘Best Practice Guidelines’.
Safetree SIM has covers four topics:
